the associated press has written an article about a collection of people who have suffered injuries from being struck by lightning while using their ipod. some of the people interviewed were outside, near a tree, and sometimes not even close to the said tree, and the bolt still made contact. the most common injuries reported are ruptured ear drums and burns where the device was placed, (headphones, the wire, and ipod unit would leave burns).
however, there is history of these incidents happening with other electronic devices, such as pagers and cell phones.
